Inbox Clinician (part -time)

The Inbox Clinician (Physician MD or DO, or Nurse Practitioner) supports the clinical team by managing in-basket coverage within the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The provider ensures timely and efficient handling of non-visit-based tasks, including patient messages, medication refills, test results, and other clinical documentation, contributing to continuity of care and effective patient communication. This is a part-time role.This position is typically scheduled 20 hours per week. Compensation is based on licensure and experience level.

Duties and responsibilities

• Monitor and manage In-basket messages, including but not limited to patient inquiries, test results, medication refill requests, clinical documentation, and staff communications.

• Respond promptly to clinical issues within the scope of practice.

• Collaborate with primary care providers to ensure coordinated patient care.

• Escalate complex or urgent clinical concerns as needed.

• Close care gaps and ensure timely follow-up actions.

• Document all actions and communications in the EHR according to standards.

• Review patient charts and histories to support provider preparation.

• Coordinate referrals and follow up on outstanding consultations or test results.

• Provide patient education on preventive care, medications, and self-care.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

• Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Current licensure as a Physician (MD or DO), or Nurse Practitioner (NP).

• Current and unrestricted professional license to practice in the state of California.

• Active and unrestricted DEA license.

• BLS Certification.

• Two or more years of clinical experience.

• Experience with outpatient or ambulatory care workflows, as well as telehealth or asynchronous care, is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Demonstrated ability to effectively perform the responsibilities outlined above.

• Ability to review and accurately interpret lab results, imaging reports, and other clinical documentation.

• Ability to work independently and efficiently in remote or on-site settings.

• Ability to provide patient education and support for continuity of care through various communication channels, including in-person and virtual platforms. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.

• Familiarity with population health, preventive care, and chronic disease management

• Proficiency with Epic electronic health records (EHR) System

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and quality reporting standards.

• Ability to identify and address care gaps and coordinate follow-up actions.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with non-clinical staff to support patient care and administrative workflows.

• Ability to use telehealth and virtual communication platforms for patient care.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook)

• Verbal and written fluency in English required; bilingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese desired but not required.

Competencies:

• Ability to deliver services and communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional and experiential background

• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Working conditions

This is a part-time position, typically 16–20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule. Work can be done remotely and/or onsite depending on department needs. Basic safety precautions and the use of protective clothing or gear may be required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate clinic coverage and patient care needs.
