Job Title: Director of Military Outreach

Department: Military Outreach

Reports To: Vice President of Military, Veteran, and Family Programs

FLSA: Exempt

Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (extended hours, weekends and holidays when requested)

Location: Remote

Compensation: The starting compensation for this position starts at $65,000.00 annually.

Disclosure: Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and company compensation guideline

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President and Vice President of Military, Veteran, and Family Programs, the Director of Military Outreach is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and directing the activities of the Military Outreach Representatives, including the management of multiple projects, and the professional development of employees within the department. The Director will provide leadership and strategic focus for the department to include advising, supporting, and reporting within the University, as well as fostering collaborative opportunities with other departments.

Essential Job Tasks Additional duties may be assigned.

• Implements written and approved work plans that align with the department’s ABC model; identify milestones, strengths, and areas of opportunity during the weekly review of the current week and last week’s outreach plan for each Military Outreach Representative.

• Supervises and monitors activities within the department and adherence to University standards, policies, and procedures.

• Oversee the hiring and ensure the development of employees within the department.

• Participates in the leadership and management of the department to help envision future direction and goals and make effective and efficient use of resources.

• Ensure staff within the department are empowered to exercise initiative, work creatively, and participate productively in both inter-departmental and inter-divisional teams and projects.

• Promotes and provides regular professional development activities for staff.

• Encourages an environment of positive cooperation and communication within the CSU community.

• Ensure Military Outreach Representatives observe CSU’s travel policies and use CSU funds prudently.

• Works with Military Outreach Representatives to maximize trips for fullest benefit practical.

• Assists in training Military Outreach Representatives and perform quality assurance trips with members of the outreach team.

• Travel extensively, including weekends and holidays as needed, to support strategic goals in student recruitment, relationship building, and program promotion.

• Leads the strategic design, coordination, and execution of high-impact leadership series events that advance professional development across all military branches, while overseeing Military Outreach Representatives involved in event delivery and engagement. Collaborate with other leaders within the division to ensure alignment and effectiveness.

• Strategically manages CSU’s military presence on LinkedIn, leveraging social media to enhance program visibility, engage stakeholders, and promote key events.

• Obtains referrals from students and prospects to augment paid advertising and enhance performance results.

• Increases percentage of enrollments and starts from leads through training, experience, and follows-up with prospects through correspondence, visits, and routine phone conversations by aiding in the completion of the application process.

• Overall knowledge of the University guidelines, policies, procedures and standards, along with the ability to interpret and implement these practices is essential. In addition, strong leadership and organizational skills, along with acute analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this position.

• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, submitting expense reports through Concur, auditing phone calls, and the management and oversight of all Military Outreach Representatives.

Knowledge

• Military Education Benefits - Possess knowledge of Military education benefits, Veterans education benefits, and a clear understanding of rules and regulations for base access and appropriate areas for Military Outreach Representatives to visit Military installations.

• Department Operations - Solid understanding of the department’s ABC model.

Skills

• Time Management - Manages team’s ability to achieve assigned task towards goal completion.

• Accountability - Holds team members accountable for creating and working their approved work plans that align with the department’s ABC model.

• Training/Team Building - Develop effective training plans, assess the team’s individual and group strengths and weaknesses, and conduct training sessions to improve the overall effectiveness of the team.

• Leadership - Proven leadership and management skills through education, work life, and military experience to assist with the team’s development of a solid work plan and management of the military resources in their assigned areas.

Abilities

• Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand plans developed by staff to provide realistic and timely follow-up.

• Budget - Ensure outreach representatives manage their assigned budgets while managing/maintaining the department’s overall budget.

• Planning - Ability to plan, react statically, and communicate changing military environment to staff effectively.

• Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences when conducting weekly meetings with staff members.

• Speech Clarity - The ability to speak clearly, so others can understand you.

Education and/or Experience

Education and experience equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree, supplemented with five (5) years of progressively, responsible leadership and management responsibilities, preferable in a university setting. Strong verbal and written communication skills along with organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities are a needed for success in this position. Ability to be bonded.

• Office equipment includes computers, telephones, and printers.

• Software used to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.

• Secure and reliable internet is required for this position.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position is remote and should have an established office with secure and reliable internet. When on campus, the work environment would be within a climate-controlled office setting mostly sedentary with frequent sitting, occasional walking and lifting, and frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. The noise level is generally moderate.
